Dr. French joined the faculty of the Division of Public and
Nonprofit Administration in the fall of 2006. He has worked at East
Tennessee State University, Appalachian State University and most
recently at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he served as
a Lecturer from 2002-2006.
Dr. French recently had a coauthored book titled
Managing America's Small Communities: People, Politics, and
Performance published by Rowman and Littlefield (2005). He is
also listed as a coauthor on Understanding American Government,
published by Horizon Textbook Publishing (2004). Most recently, his
new coauthored book, Tennessee's John S. Wilder: The Longest
Tenured State Legislator in Tennessee History, was accepted for
publication by University Press of America. Last, he has 18 refereed
articles and numerous conference papers.
His teaching interests are urban politics, public
budgeting and finance, public management, human resources, and city
management. Last, Dr. French was the winner of the Best Doctoral
Student Paper Award at the 1999 conference for SECOPA and the 2001
conference for the Western Social Science Association Conference.
